The Clair-senses; the basics of Intuition and Psychic Ability
By Amanda Rae

What are the Clair-senses? Why do we have them? When do we use them?
You have probably heard about the basic human senses. We learn about them from a very young age. They are Sight, Smell, Hearing, Touch and Taste. These were given to us to help us explore and understand our surroundings, gathering information about the world around us. Pretty handy, right?
Our Clair-senses work similar to our basic human senses; in which they help us gather information. The difference is they help us gather intuitive information. They are the basics of psychic or intuitive abilities. Each clair works differently and is used to help us gather information that is given to us from God our Divine Creator and the Spirit world.
There are six different types of Clair-senses:
1. Clairvoyance (clear seeing)
2. Clairaudience (clear hearing)
3. Claircognizance (clear knowing)
4. Clairsentience (clear feeling)
5. Clairalience (clear smelling)
6. Clairgustance (clear tasting)
“Intuition goes before you, showing you the way. Emotion goes behind, to let you know when you’ve gone astray. Listen to your inner voice. It is a GPS system seeking to keep you on track towards your true destiny. “
-Anthon St. Maarten, Divine Living: The Essential Guide To Your True Destiny
I believe we all are created and born with psychic abilities. Children often speak of the supernatural instances that occur to them. They are more open to the possibilities and they don’t judge or dis-guard what they find. They are gathering information using their clair-senses.
Did you have a wild imagination when you were little? The imaginative mind is where the psychic abilities lie. You’re probably thinking, “Well then isn’t it the same thing?” My answer in short, is no.
Creativity, imagination and dreams all occur on the right side of the brain. Your intuition, your inner voice and the voice of Divine guidance are located in the right side of your brain as well. This is also where you gather information from your clair-senses. Using your clairs to gather intuitive information can actually feel like you are just using your imagination, especially when you are just beginning.
These extra senses are very much like our own built in GPS system. It is our body’s way of picking up on information intuitively. The information is available to us in a non-physical form, however, if we are are aware of it and understand how it works, we can use that information to help guide us in our physical surroundings.
When this happens, it is often so subtle that you won’t even know it is happening unless you are really paying attention. It is really a natural part of our daily lives. I was shocked at how my clair senses presented themselves once I understood how they worked. It was so subtle, that if I wasn’t paying attention, I would surely have missed it.
Here is a quick example. Let’s say you are meeting a good friend for lunch. It is a 45 minute drive and it’s a nice sunny day. You hop in the car, buckle up, start your favorite song and pull out of your driveway. You are so excited to see your friend! You are preoccupied with making a mental list of all the things you need to catch up with them about. Just before you turn on the highway- “Gas! Check the gas.” The words rip you out of your mental list conversation you were having with yourself. You look down at your dash and notice you need to get gas before getting on the highway, there is no way you’ll make it!
Simple yet so common, right? Here is another example. It’s a super bright and warm sunny day. You are about to take a walk. On your way out, you think- “I should grab that umbrella.” But then you say to yourself “No, what for? It’s beautiful out! I don’t need it!” Ten minutes into your walk, dark clouds blow in and it starts pouring. You scold yourself as you walk home because you should have listened to your gut and grabbed that umbrella.
We have all been there. That still small voice, that gut feeling, that instant knowing with out really any physical evidence..if only we would have just listened!
These are just a few examples of how our clair senses work and how natural they can be. When I first started my spiritual journey, I noticed this happening more. Then it happened so much that I started journal and wrote about them. I felt like they meant something, but I couldn’t figure out just what. Each experience was slightly different. They may not have had a “big meaning” but it helped me learn to listen to that small voice, that gut feeling, that instant knowing. I call them “spiritual exercises.”
Stay tuned!
