Limiting Beliefs

By Amanda Rae
What are limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are the thoughts preventing you from manifesting your greatest desires.
Limiting beliefs can prevent you from creating what you want. You may know the thoughts that are holding you back, but most often they’re invisible. It’s true. Even if they are invisible, they have the power to affect your life. This is something I have learned, and continue to learn, even as I type this.
For example, if you have the limiting belief that you have to work hard to make money, you might find yourself working long hours just to stay afloat.
Or if you have the limiting belief that you’re going to be abandoned, you might avoid relationships or your belief may control your behavior, causing you to sabotage relationships. I was the master at this when I was younger.
“If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you.” ―Louise Hay
Where do Limiting Beliefs Come From?
Limited beliefs are often created in childhood. It could be from something you overheard an adult say or maybe from a bad experience that you had.
Whatever the event, your subconscious mind created a false belief. It gave meaning to the event, and that meaning is affecting you. Your ego mind is preventing you from taking actions that would allow you to achieve your goals. It doesn’t matter how reasonable or intelligent the actions are, you have trouble doing it. As long as that belief is around, no matter how much you want the end result, it won’t happen. It can’t happen. It may seem like it’s a million miles away, or just out of reach. Over time, it gets harder to stay focused and optimistic. This is usually the stalling point or the end of the dream altogether.
How to find limiting beliefs
There are many different ways to go about doing this. I will share with you what I have used so far. Feel free to use your own intuition as you go.
- Prayer- Take it to God. Ask what you need to know at this time to be revealed, that if you are to move forward, that you be shown the way.
I have a “God Box” that I use. When I am struggling with something and I realize that I am trying to do it alone, I simply write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the box and close the lid.
This is the hard part- You have GOT to let. it. go. We don’t know what the plan is, but it may be something better then we actually imagined, so release expectations!
The hardest part is in the waiting. But.. you can do it!
2. Meditation- Take your questions into meditation. Ask that Spirit lead you to the answers that you are wanting so that you can begin to shift your inner dialogue, and /or beliefs. When you are aware of the cause, you can work to remove it from the root, preventing it from resurfacing.
Knowing what the limiting belief is isn’t enough to keep it from affecting you. It’s a good first step in dissolving limiting beliefs, but more is usually needed. Once you know what the belief is, you can start working at removing it.
How to Remove Limiting Beliefs
Here are 2 different ways you can dissolve your limiting beliefs:
1. EFT, or tapping as it is commonly known, removes limiting beliefs by “tapping” on key energy points on the body. It’s kind of like acupuncture with your fingers. EFT requires tapping for a few minutes a day for several days (sometimes more) to clear a belief. Relief is often felt after the first session, but repeated sessions are usually necessary to permanently clear a belief. (Although I am not an expert, I have used this technique.)
2. Action– Action is about doing the things that you’re not doing. Whatever it is that you’re avoiding, do it. It’s kinda like exposure therapy. The more you do the resisted action, the less resistance you feel, and the less overwhelming it becomes.
For example, if you believe that you’ll be rejected if you speak your mind, the action you would take is speaking your mind.
Retraining your mind in this manner can be difficult because it is in direct opposition to the blocks your mind has created. You will need to take action multiple times, perhaps multiple times per day, to break through your blocks, but it does get easier. I promise.
3. Intuitive life coach– Work with a coach to help you identify what’s holding you back. Intuitive coaches are great because they are able to connect with a person’s energy field to identify what areas need addressed. Many times these individuals, such as myself, seem to have a lot of life experience as well as training in order to work with you from a spiritual level to help you clear this on a soul level. When you dissolve limiting beliefs, you can accomplish anything in all areas of your life. Today is the perfect day to start working at them. You will be so glad you did!
