Clairaudience - Clear Hearing

Part 2 in my series - The Clair-senses; The Basics to Intuition and Psychic Abilitie

By Amanda Rae

Have you ever heard something that nobody else around seemed to hear?

Or do you feel like you're extra sensitive to sounds and noises?

I used to spend all day alone in my room, playing with my Barbies and my American Girl Dolls. I remember hearing my name being called, so I would stop what I was doing and go find my mom.

“Mom, did you call my name? Why do you keep calling my name?” I would ask her.  She would say she didn’t call for me.. which had to be untrue.

“Are you sure?” Maybe she had forgotten she did … She would smile warmly at me and say “No, Amanda, I didn’t call your name. It must be your imagination.” Then continue doing whatever it was that she was doing at the time. “No?.. nobody called my name?” I would always be so confused as I made my way back to my room.  I remember this happening over and over when I was young.  Little did I know, this was my first sign of Clairaudience.

Clairaudience is clear hearing.
Just like Clairvoyance is seeing with your inner eye, Clair audience is hearing with your inner ear.

I know, you’re probably thinking ..Whaaaaaat?

You hear things in your mind that aren’t really audible to the physical ear?

Yes, I sure do.  And no, I’m not crazy, I promise.

People have been hearing voices for thousands of years. Matter of fact, there are many stories in the Bible written about people hearing the voice of our Creator, the Divine. Jesus, Peter, Paul and John, just to name a few.

And what about those who hear the voices of Angels , those who came to visit here on earth? Many verses in the scripture describe the angels saying “Do not be afraid…”

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. -Jeremiah 33:3

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. –Isaiah 30:21

Here are a few signs you may be Clairaudient.

  • You hear your name being called. Nobody is around, or perhaps you’ve heard soft voices saying words but it was muffled and your can’t quite make out what is being said.
  • You hear high pitched sounds. This can sound like a high pitched tones, popping, angelic choir tones or ringing in your ear. (As always, check with your doctor to make sure that the ringing in your ear is not medically related before assuming that this is a sign of Claire-audience.)
  • You talk  to yourself. And ask yourself questions. You may actually be receiving messages and guidance from the Divine when you do this. Especially if you become inspired with an answer or solution.
  • You love music or  are musically inclined. Music can be a way we receive Divine guidance as well! Just like asking yourself questions, often the answers are in the lyrics! This happens to me personally and is a beautiful and loving way for us to be supported by the Spirit world.
  • Conversations with others. Messages can be delivered through the words of people around us.
  • You also enjoy the quiet. You are sensitive to sound and can feel overstimulated when there is lots of noise and sound.
  • You are known to be a good listener. People come to you and feel like you are hearing what they are saying on a deep level.
  • You are an auditory learner. Information sticks with you easier when you hear it.
  • You tend to hear more information through a person’s tone in addition to what they are actually saying.
  • You have dreams that you are being told important information that you can remember upon awakening.

You may have all of them, or just a few. Everyone who experiences clairaudience, experiences it a little differently.

The way your clairaudience works will most likely be different from someone else. I will share with you the way my Clairaudience works from MY experience, and from MY prospective!

Have you experienced the voice of God or Spirit? I have, and I didn’t even realize it at the time. I thought it was my own voice. It sounded like my own thoughts. Except often times, those thoughts came without any prompt or sequence of thought.

A few weeks ago, I was running a bit behind getting ready for work. I gathered my things and rushed out the door, got into my car and pulled out of the driveway. Just as I reached the end of my street and heard 3 words in my mind- out of the blue.  Your schedule book!!”

I ignored those words and turned onto the next street and thought to myself-

There was no way I forgot it. I had it in my hands as I walked out the door. “It’s in your bag, you’re just rushed so you feel like you forgot something.” I thought to myself as I reached into my bag, expecting to prove to myself that it was in there.

It was missing, not in my bag or under it, not on the floor ether.. I turned my car around and headed home. I pulled into the garage and saw it laying on the steps where I set it down to grab my shoes.

Thank you Spirit for reminding me that I left it behind! That could have made my day really inconvenient!

I call these experiences mini exercises.  Have you heard your name being called but nobody was around? Or perhaps been given a gentle reminder to help you out? What did you do when you heard it?

I didn’t really know the difference until I began to experience this more frequently. It took lots of practice to know  the difference between hearing that inner voice of spirit and my own thoughts.

How did I practice my clairaudience?

By being quiet so I can receive. I spent lots of time in meditation- practicing focusing on my breath, quieting my mind and acknowledging my thoughts- even when they weren’t really helping. You know,  the thoughts like:

“Oh no, I forgot to switch the laundry..”
Is someone going to let the dog in? I think she wants in.. where are my kids?”

My next thoughts sounded something like:

Oh great job meditating, Amanda! Way to stay focused!”  (with sarcasm)

Sound familiar? If so, good! You’re doing just fine.

How? Because you’re trying. You are practicing. Keep up the good work, and keep showing up. You will learn over time to gently bring yourself back to focus.

And next time, don’t stop. Acknowledge the thoughts that come in, and let them go. Circle back to your breath and start again. It’s all part of the process. And it takes practice grace and dedication. Rome wasn’t built in a day, ya know!

Start slow, 2-4 minutes per session. Try using guided meditations if you feel your mind wandering to much. YouTube has hundreds to choose from. I use Insight Timer- a free app I downloaded to my phone.

Stay open minded and creative with the process. If something doesn’t work for you, try something else. The bottom line is have fun and relax!

Meditation helped me quiet my “Amanda brain” long enough for me to hear that still small voice. The voice of the Divine, of spirit or my own intuition. It’s a voice that’s calm and clear.  Simple and to the point. No matter what the topic or situation may be.

Our ego has lots to say. At least mine does. She blabs on and on about god knows what, and often argues back with “reasoning” to that still small voice. Just like in the example I used above with thinking the schedule book was in my bag. Ego seems to always have an opinion, a comment, or two sense to add.  (Hello monkey mind!) It’s a persistent voice. Spirit is short and to the point. No wishy washy opinions. However, we need our ego. It plays an important role for us. It keeps us out of danger. Our egos number one job is survival. So even though it sounds like it can be a pain, it is still very important!

If you’ve had a session with me, you know I refer to my Ego as my “monkey mind” or my “Amanda brain.” That’s my personal way of describing it. You can refer to your Ego however feels right for you.

Ego tip: One of my mentors refers to her Ego by name. When she starts a session, she asks her Ego  to take a seat outside and wait. I think that’s a great idea and have done that a few times myself. It works well knowing that what comes through is from spirit and it helps me keep my own thoughts and opinions out of my meditations and my work.

This will help you know what you hear comes from within and not the environment in which you are surrounded by. You will learn the difference as to how the “hearing” actually feels and registers in your mind.

I used this technique and found it helpful. It was also relaxing and honestly, it can be a form of meditation!

Clair-audience is the name for “clear hearing.” We hear guidance, support and messages from God and the spirit world. It is heard in our mind, although, some have heard with their physical ears, it isn’t as common. Clair-audience is just one natural ability that often times comes so natural we don’t even realize what it is. By practicing meditation and listening closely to our surroundings we can hone the ability to know when we are receiving messages from the Divine more efficiently!

How to Practice Clair-audience:
  1. Find a quiet place to sit where you wont be disturbed. You could go to outdoors and visit a park, or anywhere that is semi quiet will work.
  2. Find a place to sit, close your eyes.
  3. Take 3-5 deep breaths and relax your body.
  4. Listen to the sounds all around you. Listen as you take it all in and your body adjusts to receiving information through this sense only.
  5. Pick one sound. Is it a bird? The cars driving by? If you’re inside- is it the washing machine? The dog snoring? Your neighbor mowing the grass? The clock on the wall ticking?
  6. Listen to that sound. Tune into that sound only. As you do, you will learn to automatically tune out the rest of the noises- allowing you to focus on the one single noise.
Once you feel comfortable holding that sound, pick another and follow the same steps.

This will help you know when a sound comes from within and not the environment in which you are surrounded by. You will learn the difference as to how the “hearing” actually feels and registers in your mind. I used this technique and found it helpful. Somewhere between poetry and science, somewhere between heaven and earth, clairaudience is born. Clairaudience is the sweetest mistery any human being could ever experience.
